In the years 1966 and 67 we took part in a transversal anthropometric research covering 9192 schoolchildren from Eastern Slovakia aged 6 to 18. We studied the dependence of various growth values on certain living conditions. In this connection we evaluate here bodily height — as the primary index of growth. From the methodological point of view we used the Duncan-Kramer test to evaluate the averages of anthropometric signs between individual signs of the environment according to years and then for all the classes together we used Wilcoxon’s pair test. We represent the results by means of growth curves for various signs — factors of environment. We have found that children who take their meals at a school canteen are significantly taller than those who have their meals at home. As regards the question of the way the pupils get from home to school we have found that those boys and girls who live in the same locality as the school is are taller than those who have to walk to school daily from another village.
